Family Organizer

Cartoon 1761

I need a system that organizes all of our schedules, that I can take with me, doesn’t require the all my sticky notes, and can’t be wiped off at the end of the month.

I need a system that I can access from my phone and my home computer.

I need it to be easy for me to use, and doesn’t require a lot of thought.

I have tried apps in the past with no real luck…….

Opus Domini was maybe my most successful app. You could build your personal mission, visualize and set your course, define your goals, have a daily blueprint of your life, categorize into four area how important a task was, have multiple planning views, and  had a tasks, calendar & events, notes,  growth tools, and cloud back up & sync. But it is only available for Mac, iPod, and iPhones, I have an android and I am perfectly happy with it.

Planner Plus is ok as it is the closest to Opus Domini. You can create tasks, events, notes, has different views, and is color coded.

CalenMob is a Google Calendar app with intuitive design. I am trying this for my home business but not liking it.

Screenshot 2015-01-13 08.15.08

Schedule Planner this actually has something I wish Opus Domini had “Planned” vs “Actual” day planning interface. But honestly the whole thing is a little confusing on how to do everything. Like an information OVERLOAD!

Cozi and everyone raves about this one. Maybe I just haven’t given it a fair enough shot.  It has a family calendar, shopping lists, to-do lists, family journal, and meals. But honestly it looks overwhelming and like an overload of information. I do like that my husband and daughter can have it on their phones and we can all be connected. Not too sure after that.

What are your thoughts and opinions? Do you have an app that you love and can’t live without?

Now, I have Home Management Binders and I love them. But I am not lugging them all over! I made these back in 2013, after my mother-in-law died and I went through her paperwork for two days!

I had been looking for months for home management system that fit me. No luck! I mean what could possible fit a person as complex as myself. I could make the sheets but I knew there was blanks out there waiting for me to find. Than I started piecing one together…….. what a pain! I mean each had a different theme and I like everything to flow. Besides things started to mix and nothing was clear-cut.

I found most of my print of at Life Your Way , it is an awesome site and is worth you checking out. No, really go! I will wait right here, take as long as you need, I’ll wait……………

Oh, your back? Are you as impressed as me?

Anyways they have over 200 printables! Than there is the whole article about how to use a Home Management Notebook, which you can find here.

I made four of these FABULOUS binders! I thought of making one huge binder, but then I decided against it. Some things are laminated so that I don’t have to make a million copies and burn through ink. If it is something I need a record of I will scan it.  First, I went to Wal-Mart and bought some file folders for a $1 for three and found some old 3-ring binders downstairs that were in great condition. Next, I printed off all the copies I would need for the four binders. Then I laminated the ones that I needed to. If you don’t have a laminator I recommend you buy one, it is worth the investment of $20-30. Last, I three-hole punched everything and put them in the correct binders.

Binder #1 – Is my household vital information. This binder has a section for all five members of my house. Each person has a personal information sheet, basic medical information, and a medication information sheet. For the three of us over 16 years of age we each have a wallets contents sheet. The two younger kids also have a school information, medicine checklist (laminated two-sided), and a usual day in our home sheet. After all those tabs I have a cars tab and a car maintenance sheet for each of our cars. Next is our home inventory, home maintenance, dvd inventory, book inventory, and pet info tabs and sheet.

Binder #2 – Is my everyday binder that has everything an outsider or my husband would need to run my household if I was not around. This binder has the following sections in it: calendar, cleaning, menu planning, to do, contacts, and holidays/traditions. Most of these pages are laminated. I laminated pages like Our House: Week at a Glance, My weekly cleaning routine, cleaning checklists, 3 laminated monthly calendars for meal planning, weekly meal plan, pantry inventory, freezer inventory, daily action planner, weekly action planner, and my daily docket.

Binder #3 – Is my financial binder that has our budget, and account information. I have all our utilities information in one place. I also keep our current bills in the back, along with any coupon books for payments.

Binder #4 – Is all for my father-in-law and my sanity. After his wife died we needed to keep this information in a place that we knew where it was. This book has his personal information, medical information, and his finance information.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject! Let me know!

Budget Day

This is the day I have dreaded for a life time! It is like going to the dentist, I would rather clean out my attic. I would rather shovel snow in the upcoming winter storm expected to hit us this weekend every hour. But this budget thing is something I NEED to do! I recently sign-up at church for the Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey. If you have thought about it, DO IT. Never heard about it, FIND OUT!

You spend $99 for the class kit and it is truly amazing what you get. Workbooks, CDs, envelope system, goodies, and if you listen to him and do what he says you get out of debit!

We are working on baby step 1, getting that $1000 in the bank! Now we are working on our budget. I think I know where our money goes but I think I will be surprised by where it really goes. We will be attempting a no-spend March to help get our priorities and finances in line.

Never heard of the No-Spend Challenge? Head over here to find out more. I will tell you it is a true challenge.

They even have a version for kids here!

I might post on how it all goes, as long as I am not a pile of a crying mess huddled in the corner of my living room.

Happy New You part 2

Happy-New-You-Slider-Starts-630x200

Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you’re living?

I think this is an amazing question to ask yourself.

I missed Pastor Erik’s part 2 of the message on a Happy New You. (I was away cooking for a group of adult, only one with anything negative to say.) So, I am listening to it as we speak and I am typing to you my thoughts. You can go here to find the podcast and message for two weekends ago. I will post Saturdays message here on Tuesday.

So, two weeks ago we talked about My Happiness Map Worksheet. Here is what he wants us to work on now. The things in Italics are new items he is asking.

My personal purpose statement: My personal purpose statement is to be a wife, mother, and friend who is curious but not judgemental, passionate about life, who lives a life worth being proud of while helping and cheering on those around me, and who always remembers where she came from.

Faith – My one goal in faith this year is to grow my relationship with God.
  • Where am I in my faith on a scale of 1 to 10?  I would have to say I am on about a 6.
  • How did I get here?  Well, last year I really had no relationship with God other than I knew he was around when I was ready. Now I am going to church, I am saying a daily prayer, and I am showing him to my children.
  • Are there any lies I have believed in this area?  Maybe that the church I grew up in was the only church for me, even if it didn’t fit or feel right.

Family –  My one goal for family this year is to make the most out of the time we spend together as a family.

  • Where am I in my family on a scale of 1 to 10?  I would say a 4, maybe a weak 5.
  • How did I get here?  We are doing more family dinners.
  • Are there any lies I have believed in this area? It would have to be that we need to be the perfect family, that my friend doesn’t exist!

Fitness – My one goal in fitness this year is to walk more in my free time.

  • Where am I in my fitness on a scale of 1 to 10?  I would say a strong 6!
  • How did I get here? I made my mind up to start walking to work two days a week and not play Xbox so much. I told people my plan and they are holding me accountable.
  • Are there any lies I have believed in this area?  I thought it would be easy but it is really hard to walk 8 miles on those two days.

Finances – My one goal in finances this year is to really look at the things I buy and decide if it is really worth spending the money on it.

  • Where am I in my finances on a scale of 1 to 10?  Maybe a 5!
  • How did I get here? I do take a strong look at what I buy and ask myself is it really a need or a want. I have lapses.
  • Are there any lies I have believed in this area? I thought I could do this cold turkey and it is not that easy, a slip and buying a latte one day and you go what was I thinking!

Friends – My one goal for friends this year is to strengthen my current friendships and always be willing to accept new ones.

  • Where am I with my friends on a scale of 1 to 10? I would say a strong 5.
  • How did I get here? I am trying to be a better listener and not so much a talker. Trying to take in what people say, not just thinking me, me, me.
  • Are there any lies I have believed in this area? Relationships are hard and this is not easy

Future – My one goal for the future this year is to be a more positive person and not dwell on the negative.

  • Where am I in relation to my future on a scale of 1 to 10?  A decent 6!
  • How did I get here?  I think by pushing out the negative thoughts and thinking twice before saying most things.
  • Are there any lies I have believed in this area? I always believed that you needed to treat people in a harsh way to get them to respond.

Fun – My one goal for fun this year is to enjoy my time on this earth because none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

  • Where am I in having fun on a scale of 1 to 10?  I am maybe a 3!
  • How did I get here? I think I have had a negative outlook for so long that I forgot to enjoy the little things and just laugh.
  • Are there any lies I have believed in this area? Not sure!

So, how are you coming on the new you? I would love to hear.

PS~ I am writing this post at 11pm at night and on Vicodin. Sorry if I don’t make a lot of sense. I am trying though!!

The latest buzz……

Friday was the launch of the Samsung Acclaim on US Cellular, the nation’s sixth-largest carrier. I got mine at 10am.

It has all these cool features! I did learn, that I cannot figure out how to get myxer ringtones onto the phone. It is a bit like the Blackberry, where there is a bit of a learning curve. My US Cellular rep has been a great help and what he doesn’t know he is looking up on google.

When you are setting everything up it is a bit of a battery whore, but once the phone is the way I like it, it should be better.

I did put an antivirus on it that I got free from the Droid Market. This saves me a big headache later.

The touchscreen is great, not too much pressure and not too little.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed by the fact there is never cases at the US Cellular for the new phones, or screen protectors! But that is what the internet is for.

The charger is cool in that the cord unplugs from the wall unit and is a USB cable and plugs into your computer!  HOW FLIPPING COOL!

Zoe, fear not my Blackberry is now in my son’s hands and it is safe!

Life and people who make it impossible

So, I have been blogging in a few months. I changed my blog to a free site and I may have lost a few of you guys. Sorry. Life has been a bit of mass confusion! It all started back in April when I took the job of Inventory Manager. Oh, life would never be the same. At first it was easy but that was because there was two of us doing the job. Than mid way through May, Jeff left for Colorado and left me to swim with the sharks. Little did I know how much he did not teach me and I was left to figure it out on my own.
That is when my blogging stopped and my drowning in the sea of crap started. The last few weeks I have been putting in 9 to 11 hour days and coming home dead on my feet. This week is no different and I have already put in 32 hours in 3 days. I usually come home and eat (not usually) and than I head downstairs and hop on the XBox and play some games. I have grown tired of that.
Tonight I ate dinner, hopped on the computer, took a shower, hopped on my XBox and tried to play Call of Duty but found it completely stupid. I decided to hop on facebook and than I decided to blog. I am currently blogging to you, no one, and watching Twilight. I had to go buy a new copy since my boss lost my copy after I loaned it to him. Speaking of my boss, tha man calls me almost everyday after work or on the weekend. Tonight he called to ask a silly question about dog food. Now this question could have been left in a note and dealt with in the morning. It is weird how he just can’t leave me alone to enjoy my time away from work. My ring tone for work is Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You”. How funny!
So, let’s see what has happened since I stopped blogging.

  • Kids are out of school for the summer and “Monster Child” went to a Kindergarten Jump-Start program in our district for the month of June.
  • We added a third bird to our flock, Emerald a green-blue Quaker Parrot.  We have Indy a Parrotlette and Kiwi a blue-green Quaker Parrot.
  • The Beabulls, Winston and Abbey are a year old now.
  • We added a fourth pup to our pack.  Rico Suave is our big eared little Chihuahua.  He weighs all of 3 lbs. and 6oz and has ears the size of small satellite dishes but we love him and he loves me!
  • Bought a new car and got rid of Barbie, 1997 Malibu.  I now have a 2001 PT Cruiser that is fully loaded and I am in total love with it!
  • I also got a new cell phone and I must say that it is cute!

I am going to try to post on my other photo blog soon, so keep an eye out and I’ll see you tomorrow!
